My tyre is worn partly on one side, does it need replacing ?

The required minimum legal limit is 1.6mm accross three quarters of the tread, so this tyre would need replacing to comply with U.K. law. It’s also worth remembering that their is a considerable amount of loss of grip from 3mm down to 1.5mm The tyre would also need replacing if it has any bulges in the sidewall, if the tyre has extensive cracking on the side walls (usually due to age, but can also occur with regular under inflation)

Importance of correct torque settings for wheels

Every vehicle has factory recommended torque settings, these vary from around 85nm upto 140nm for the larger vehicles. If the nuts are over tightened (and many are) this will stretch and weaken the thread and bolt shaft, causing a weak point within the metal, eventually causing it to shear.
