If you are taking the caravan away this summer, do check the condition and age of the tyres before your journey. After approximately six years old most tyres are due for a change as the rubber loses elasticity. Small cracks where the rubber is perishing usually indicate the time to change and if ignored can lead to blow outs. It’s sometimes frustrating as there can be quite a bit of tread left especially if the caravan only gets used a few times each year. We attended a job yesterday where the customer had hit a pothole resulting in severe damage to his front tyre and alloy wheel.  Unfortunately his spare tyre was below the legal tread depth so he had ordered two new tyres to put onto the front of the car along with the alloy wheel from the spare tyre.  He said that this had been the second time in less than six months that he had damaged his car due to potholes.  Potholes can be a costly nuisance to motorists and we hear similar stories from some of our other customers.  In times where councils are reducing budget allocations for many things including road repair and maintenance, it is seems inevitable that wrecked tyres will continue to be an unfortunate fact of life for some drivers.
