With cold wintery conditions already gripping parts of the country it makes sense to act now and make sure your car tyres are ready for the worst of the weather.
In colder conditions worn car tyres will significantly reduce traction and therefore vehicle safety as stopping distances increase and cornering stability and grip decrease.
So the first thing etyres Barrow-in-Furness recommend you do is check to make sure your car tyres have got the legal minimum tread depth of 1.6mm. It is also worth remembering that at this time of year many motoring and safety groups recommend replacing your car tyres once the tread wears down to below 3mm.
Also make sure your car tyres are properly inflated to ensure you get the maximum performance from them and are less likely to pick up a puncture or suffer a blow out at high speed.
And don’t forget to give your car tyres a thorough visual inspection, looking out for cracks and bulges or signs of damage. Again they can lead to problems down the road.
When inspecting your car tyres you can try turning the steering wheel to full lock to see the inside edges of the tyres.
Finally, if you are going to replace your car tyres this winter, consider investing in a set of winter tyres which are specially designed for the colder conditions, especially while etyres Barrow-in-Furness is offering £25 off all winter tyre orders. Whilst not suitable for every driver, those who clock up miles or depend on their car for work should definitely consider fitting winter tyres as they can keep you moving in treacherous conditions long after summer tyres have given up.
The Guardian newspaper ran an article about the benefits of winter tyres earlier this year, which you can read here. It reports that fitting winter tyres can make your vehicle more effective in severe winter conditions than a 4×4 because of the enhanced grip they provide.
etyres Barrow-in-Furness supply and fit a wide range of car tyres, including a large selection of winter tyres, all at affordably low prices. Plus our mobile service means our customers can have their tyres fitted at their work or home – which is especially handy if you have ordered a new set of winter tyres and you want to store your old ones in your garage or shed.

If you are considering replacing your caravan’s tyres, the team here at etyres may be able to take the strain out of the process. Our mobile tyre fitting service brings the tyres to you and fits them on site. So you don’t have to take your caravan out of storage to tow it to the depot – we bring the depot to you.
etyres is now an authorised Tyron Band dealer – so we can install new Tyron Bands for customers wishing to purchase them as well as changing tyres for customers who already have them fitted.
Remember, even if there’s plenty of tread remaining on your caravan’s tyres they may need replacing anyway if they are over six years old.
