Gareth, etyres – Cardiff writes: A little later than usual because of the lovely ‘spring’ weather, but it’s that time of year again for the caravans and motor homes to come out of storage. Tyres on these vehicles must be checked after standing in one position for any length of time. The caravan club recommends replacing tyres after 5 years regardless of their condition. For the tyre manufacturing date, look at the side wall of the tyre and there will be a dot code for example DOT 1709. This is telling you that the tyre was made in the 17th week of 2009. Please remember this was when the tyre was made and not fitted. A visual check is essential. Look for tread depth (1.66m.m. being the legal limit), uneven wear, bulges or misshapes, but the most common is cracking on the sidewall. It may only be in one spot where the van has been parked for a length of time, but the caravan tyre may have started to perish. A few minutes taken now can save a lot a trouble later.
