Unfortunately, there are many misconceptions about winter tyres, some argue they are only worth having when the roads are covered with snow or ice, but this is just not true.
Winter tyres actually come into their own when the temperature dropsbelow 7C, which even during our milder winter’s, is a regular occurrence for us between October and March.
What happens is, regular ‘all season’ tyres quickly become less flexible which makes them lose their ability to grip the road and dramatically increases your stopping distance.
However, winter tyres remain flexible and grip better when temperatures drop below 7C because they contain a greater amount of naturalrubber and silicone.
