Steve – tyres Bolsover writes: With fuel prices reaching such heights, here is a useful tip to help you save a bit of money at the pumps – make sure your tyres are properly inflated.
If your tyres are inflated to the correct level it will make your vehicle much more fuel efficient, this is because under-inflated tyres have lower rolling resistance, which means more energy is needed to make them turn.
According to tests, tyres which are under-inflated by just 20 per cent (around 6psi), use up 3 per cent more fuel.
It has been estimated that in the UK alone as much as £337 million of fuel is wasted every year as a result of driving on under-inflated tyres.
Other advantages to having properly inflated tyres is that they reduce the risk of experiencing a dangerous blowout, significantly extend the tyre life and reduce CO2 emissions.
