More about Pendeford Wolverhampton West Midlands
Pendeford is a suburb of Wolverhampton, West
Midlands, England. It is situated NNW of the city
centre, adjacent to the border with Staffordshire,
within the Oxley ward of Wolverhampton City Council.
Most of the area is a housing estate built in the 1970s
and 1980s, on the site of the former Wolverhampton
Aerodrome and the Bolton & Paul aircraft factory.
Pendeford also has a large Morrisons supermarket,
several smaller shops and a community centre. Smaller
shops include Choices, Dillons, and Home and Motorsave.
There are two primary schools next to these shops, St.
Pauls, and Priory Green. St Pauls doubles as a church
and a cafe. A canal runs through the area, bordering the
local housing estates including Oxley, Fordhouses, and
Dovecotes. Dovecotes was also part of Pendeford, as was
Aldersley. The area also has a small brook running
through it, but its original position has moved.
The whole area was once an airfield during the second
world war, and became Wolverhampton airport in the
1950's. A memorial to this can be seen on the walls of
the newest estate within Pendeford.
