Mindless vandals went on a wrecking spree over the Bank Holiday weekend and left dozens of vehicle owners stranded by slashing their car tyres.
The tyres of more than 50 cars and vans were stabbed with a dart in the former mining village of Lynemouth, in Northumberland.
It is the latest instance of criminal damage to hit the village in recent weeks and locals are being left stranded because of poor transport links in the community.
A mum who had her tyres slashed said: “It’s the second time it has happened to us and it better not happen again.
“Last time I was going on holiday and it was just really annoying. Everyone is up in arms and we want something done about it. It has been going on for months.”
Cars offer a lifeline to nearby towns and work, due to poor transport links.
“One self-employed worker said: “They got my van, all four of the tyres. It’s just sheer mayhem, something needs to be done.”
Supt Allan Brown, of Northumberland Area Command, promised increased uniform and covert patrols.
He said: “Such acts of criminal damage not only affects the victims but everyone within the community, having a detrimental impact on people’s quality of life.”
