Amidst the glamour of the supercars and the concept vehicles, a Korean tyres company has been in the spotlight at this week’s Geneva Motor Show.
Kumho tyres are responsible for the new ultra low rolling resistance tyres fitted to the eagerly-anticipated Nissan Qazana concept car being debuted at the show.
The tyres are notable for their strong eco credentials, with the Korean manufacturer using a number of cutting edge design tools to compound nano materials and ensure ultra low rolling resistance without sacrificing grip or wear in wet conditions. The tread profile and side wall section have also been optimized.
To add to the excitement, there is also a British theme to these designs too.
Their development was orchestrated by Rob Dolton of Kumho’s UK based European Technical Centre which has been working on the project for the last five months and the Nissan Qazana will be built at the company’s plant in Sunderland.
Kumho proudly boasts of its ability to produce concept tyres for concept cars, with managing director Roger Jenkins speaking of his pride in the Nissan project.
He said: “Concept vehicles are great platforms for inspiration – a commodity we should make the most of, particularly in these difficult times for the automotive industry.
“KETC relished the opportunity to work closely with Nissan on this concept program and it gave us the ideal platform to demonstrate the considerable portfolio of skills and invention we can share with the motor industry.”
