More than 30 million tyres are sold in the UK every year, according to a new report.
The new figure, which includes 4×4 and light van tyres, represents the first time an official estimate has been as high, according to the Tyre Industry Federation.
The TIF data is based on figures contributed by the tyres manufacturers association and the Tyres Wholesalers Group of the National Tyre Distributors Association.
These indicate that sales into the UK market totalled 29.7 million units in 2007, before imports, retreads and part-worn tyres.
Etyres, the UK’s leading online tyres retailer, has been experiencing record demand during the past few months, despite the recession
As new car sales plummet, more motorists are hanging on to their old cars and turning to the internet for the best deals on replacement tyres to keep maintenance costs down.
Etyres offers a convenient mobile tyres fitting service, and because it does not have expensive depots to run, its low overheads mean cheaper prices for customers – up to 40% lower than traditional high street retailers.
