There was an interesting article in the Telegraph the other day reminding us that councils are likely to reduce spending this year on preparing road services for winter, so making sure your tyres are safe and legal is going to be even more imperative than usual.
It goes on to report that running cold weather tyres during the winter means not only that your safety is taken care of but that your summer set lasts twice as long.
The article extols the virtues of Michelin tyres – which offer a range to cater for all vehicles, including family saloons, high-performance cars, 4.4s, SUVs and vans.
In a test by leading tyre safety organisation Tyresafe, two Michelin-shod Mercedes C-class estates were tested on an ice-rink to show the difference between summer and winter tyres. The car with winter tyres stopped in 7.01m, compared with the summer tyre car’s 9.75m. A difference of 40 per cent.
