Almost three quarters of women drivers haven’t got a clue how to change flat tyres, according to a poll by an online car company.
The research by webuyanycar.com revealed that it wasn’t just women who were hopeless when it comes to changing tyres and carrying out other basic car maintenance.
For even though 72 percent of women haven’t the first idea how to change a flat tyre, 26 percent of men can’t change one either.
But despite being marginally better at looking after their own cars, a fifth of male motorists still don’t know how to increase tyre pressure, fill up windscreen wash or check if the headlights are working.
Basic tasks which confuse both men and women include checking brake fluid levels, shock absorbers and checking the brakes are working.
Paul Coulter, spokesman for webuyanycar.com, which conducted the poll of 3,000 motorists* said: “The fact of the matter is if you take good care of your car, you are likely to get a better price for it when it comes to selling it. Also a car which is in good working order and condition will be much easier to sell.”
