They say money can’t buy happiness, but a new study reveals it can buy time – and time buys happiness! Not convinced? Stick with us and we will explain how this theory works and why our mobile tyre fitting service perfectly demonstrates its accuracy!
Following a recent experiment, people reported greater happiness if they used £30 to save time – such as by paying for jobs to be done – rather than spending the money on material goods, by reducing feelings of time stress.
“Money can in fact buy time. And it buys time pretty effectively,” explained Dr Elizabeth Dunn, a psychologist professor at the University of British Columbia, Canada, who conducted the research with colleagues at Harvard Business School, Maastricht University and Vrije Universities Amsterdam.
“And so my take home message is, ‘think about it, is there something you hate doing that fills you with dread and could you pay somebody else to do that for you?’ If so, then science says that’s a pretty good use of money.”
This is precisely the reason why so many etyres customers choose our mobile tyre fitting service. While our prices are always highly competitive, it is the fact that we fit your tyres at your home or work, so you don’t have to waste your valuable time going to a garage, that keeps many of our customers returning to our UK-wide network of mobile tyre fitters.
Our customers can get on with their daily routine, whether you are working, looking after the children or simply chilling out in the garden or in front of the TV, while we take care of your tyres. And you don’t have to worry about paying an over-inflated price for our mobile tyre fitting service, it is included in the price you are quoted upfront, along with a new valve, balancing, disposal of the old tyre and VAT. There are no hidden extras with etyres.
Psychologists discovered the findings after questioning more than 6,000 adults in the US, Canada, Denmark and the Netherlands, including 800 millionaires, and asking specifically how much money they spent on buying time.
The researchers found that fewer than a third spent money to buy themselves time each month, but that those who did reported greater life satisfaction than the others.
The researchers then devised a two-week experiment among 60 working adults in Vancouver, Canada.
To test whether buying time actually causes greater happiness, the researchers also conducted a field experiment. Sixty adults were asked to spend £30 on a purchase that would save them time. They did things like buying lunches to be delivered to work or paying for cleaning services.
Then, on a second weekend, they were asked to spend the same amount on a material purchase, with wine, clothes and books proving popular choices.
The results revealed that the participants felt happier when they spent money on a time saving purchase than on a material purchase.
So… if you need new tyres or a puncture repair, avoid the hassle of finding the spare time to get to a garage and then hanging around while the job is carried out, instead call etyres and let us save you time, hassle and money – which should make you very happy!
