The question of whether to fit winter tyres to cope with the extreme weather the UK has been experiencing during the past few weeks is on many motorists minds.
Top motoring writer and TV presenter Quentin Willson was quizzed on the subject of winter tyres by one of his Sunday Mirror column readers and this is what he had to say:
Gary from Worcestershire asked: “I’ve had some heart-stopping moments in the snow, but need to drive my car to work. What do youthink of snow chains or studded tyres? If the winter weather we’ve been having continues, I’ve got to do something.”
Quentin advised him: “You need Avon Ice Touring tyres. The Finns, Swedes and Germans swear by them. They give better traction on snow, ice and mud, and are pretty good on wet roads too. The only downside is their lower-than-normal speed-rating, so you can’t really use them all year round, unless you’re just pootling round the town. At £50 a corner, they’ll keep you safe without breaking the bank.”
On several occasions Quentin has recommended etyres to his readers, because of our low prices for premium brand tyres and convenient mobile fitting service.
