The Pirelli name is synonymous with premium, market-leading tyres – but now it seems they are giving Manolo Blahnik a run for his money…
It appears the Italian tyres manufacturer is branching into the shoe business and has transferred its flair for automotive panache into a new footwear range.
Part of Pirelli’s PZero industrial design project, the ‘Gum Appeal’ collection of high heel shoes includes dual-tone rain boots, low-cut shoes, passe-partout boots and 8cm high lace-up half-boots.
The Gum Appeal shoes offer soles based on the P Lunga tyre, providing what Pirelli so eloquently describe as “a fusion of feminility and comfort”.
The materials used are, obviously, rubber and rubberised calf with details in felt and the glittering fabric of the upper and the range is available in a number of stylish colours, including industrial grey and anthracite; petrol and tyre black; bordeaux and, perhaps a little questionably, yellow.
