Bolton Wanderers FC wants to wheel out hundreds of old tyres to help tackle the winter freeze at their training grounds.
While manager Gary Megson worries about his paper-thin squad decimated by injuries and suspensions, club groundsman Richard Norton is hoping two giant frost covers and 300 old tyres will solve his problems.
The enormous sheets – one full-pitch size for the Euxton training ground, another half-size for the new Eddie Davies Academy facility at Lostock – will be rolled out to protect the surfaces from sub-zero temperatures and ensure decent outdoor training facilities when the temperature plummets.
But they need to be safely anchored and the groundstaff estimate that 200 to 300 old tyres will be simple, but effective solution to the problem.
The Club, which suffered a 1-0 defeat against Arsenal at the weekend, are hoping for a better result with their tyres appeal.
