Plans are well underway for the annual Tyre Safety Month which gets underway in October.
The message driven home by Tyresafe, the UKs leading tyres safety group, is “Look after your tyres….and your tyres will look after you”.
Vehicle owners are often guilty of neglecting their tyres, but the results of this can be fatal, the campaign will warn.
During 2008, 43 motorists sadly lost their lives as a result of an accident which involved an illegal, defective or under-inflated tyre.
And over 1,000 other accidents were caused by the same factor.
Throughout October, TyreSafe, which recently appointed a new PR agency to help orchestrate the initiative, will be working to get its message across to motorists.
The aim is to raise awareness of tyre safety issues and look to reduce the number of accidents and fatalities on the UK’s roads.
TyreSafe is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to raising awareness of the importance of the dangers of defective and worn tyres.
It has campaigned consistently to underline the importance of tyre safety for more than 15 years and was rewarded with the Prince Michael International Road Safety Award in 2001.
The group receives positive support from many major tyre manufacturers and retailers, and has been credited with reducing the number of defective tyres in the UK over the past decade from 18 percent to 12 percent.
