Pirelli tyres sign up for European road safety campaign

Pirelli tyres is demonstrating its active commitment to the reduction of traffic accidents by signing the European Road Safety Charter (ERSC).
The Italian tyres manufacturer signed the Charter, promoted by the European Commission, in Rome during the Italian stage of the ERSC’s National Tour and plans to implement a series of schemes to promote the road safety message.
Alessandro D’Este, managing director of Pirelli Tyre Italia and signatory for the Pirelli group, said: “Safety has always been our focus. Pirelli means performance everywhere in the world but there is no performance without suitable levels of safety.”
Pirelli has committed to following a proposed action plan aimed at contributing to the improvement of drivers’ knowledge and know-how on road safety.
It also plans to contribute to the early development of safety driving awareness and skills of future young learner driver by sponsoring active training programmes targeted at youngsters (from 11 to 16 years old) with the involvement of their parents (pilot project potential of 60,000 children plus parents, so 180,000 people per year in UK)
Pirelli also plans to organise seminars for special targets on safety aspects (pilot project potential of 500 drivers a year in Germany) and raise awareness of road users to safety topics by a broad campaign on the pre-summer holiday tyre control, including running a PR campaign.
And there are further plans to create an educational content package covering the main aspects of tyres which contribute to the improvement of road safety.
