Pirelli tyres is teaming up with Red Bull driver Mark Webber off the race-track to support the charity he set up to raise funds money for good causes, including research into leukemia.
With the first race of the 2011 Formula One World Championship just days away and the Italian tyres company about to make its return to the sport, it is the perfect time to capitalise on the publicity surrounding the F1 roadshow.
Pirelli is backing the Swisse Mark Webber Tasmania Challenge, the five-day, multi-sport event that takes competitors across some of Tasmania’s most stunning locations, as a major partner.
Webber said: “It’s great to have a sponsor of the calibre of Pirelli. This is definitely going to raise the profile of the Challenge and help us to raise more money from companies who want to show that they are also willing to help.”
Alessandro Marchi, Pirelli Tyres Australia Managing Director, added: “We’re delighted to be supporting the Mark Webber Challenge in the year that Pirelli is making its return to Formula One as official supplier from 2011-2013, starting from the Australian Grand Prix this very weekend.
“This partnership is a natural fit for us, consistent with our company policy that takes its responsibility to others and the natural environment extremely seriously.”
The 2011 Swisse Mark Webber Tasmania Challenge will be held from 7‐11 December, with Webber jetting into the state directly from the final round of the Formula One series in Brazil.
The event is part of the Mark Webber Challenge, created by the Formula One driver in 2006 to use adventure sport as a fundraiser, has so far raised more than a million Australian dollars for charities such as the Leukemia Foundation and Save the Tasmanian Devil Appeal.
