Traditional high street retailers suffered ‘disappointing’ sales last month as winter discounting ended and snow set in, new figures revealed today.
But as shoppers are tightening their purse strings, etyres, the UK’s leading online tyres retailer, is seeing double-digit growth as consumers turn to the internet to save money on essentials, like car tyres.
Retail sales fell 1.8% in February compared to a year ago, showing January’s surprise sales rise to be “just a discount-driven blip”, according to the British Retail Consortium.
And the researchers warned more job losses should be expected on the beleaguered high street as non-food retailers battle falling sales and margins are further hit by rising import costs.
