If your car is due for its annual MOT test make sure your tyres don’t let you down and cause your vehicle to fail.

Nobody wants to waste their time and money putting their car in for the annual test only for it to fail on something you could have identified and put right yourself in a matter of minutes.

Start by making sure that all the cars fitted to your vehicle are the right type and size. If one tyre is of a different nominal size or aspect ratio to any other on the same axle it will lead to a fail.

Ensure that if a special lightweight or space saving wheel and tyre has been fitted to your vehicle it is replaced with a standard tyre before the test.

Next check that all the tyres have a tread depth of at least 1.6mm right the way around and across the central three-quarters of the pattern. If you are not sure how to do this, watch our short tyre tread depth video, where Vicki Butler Henderson shows you exactly how to make sure your tyres have enough grip.

Finally, although spare tyres aren’t checked as part of the MOT test, those stored externally will need to be fastened securely.

And don’t leave the checks until the last minute, because if you need a new tyre you want to be able to shop around and get the best deal and arrange to have it fitted before the test.

The last thing you want is to have to pay over the odds for a new tyre to get you through the test, because you need to have your car on the road.

etyres supply and fit a wide range of tyres and we can usually fit them the next day at a time and location to suit you. So if you carry out these checks and discover you need new tyres, you can save yourself money and hassle by arranging for etyres to supply and fit your new tyres as soon as possible ahead of your MOT test.

Our prices are always highly competitive and are currently even lower because of our Summer Sale, which means you can save £10 if you buy two or three new tyres or get a generous £25 discount if you buy four or more new tyres.
