Ferrari racing ace Felipe Massa is optimistic that the new Pirelli tyres will be better suited to his Formula One driving style and help boost his form.
The Italian driver had a tough 2010 season, however he has revealed that he hopes the Italian tyres manufacturer could get him back on the right track.
On his return to the sport after injury ruled him out of a large part of 2009, the Brazilian failed to win a race and he finished sixth in the championship ranking having notched up just five podium finishes.
Massa complained that, like Michael Schumacher, he could not get on with the 2010 Bridgestone tyres. But the new season brings a new tyre supplier in the form of Pirelli – and fresh hope that the new rubber will deliver the chance to bounce back.
The racing ace said: “ was a bad year for me and I didn’t have the car I wanted to have to drive, especially because of the tyres.
“For my driving style, it was very difficult. I’m looking forward to a nice year in 2011 when I can drive the car I wanted to drive.
“The first run with the Pirelli tyres was positive and the grip of the front tyres was good. It was positive to my driving style although we drove in a car that will be different as it was the 2010 car and not the one I will drive this year. That will be different because of KERS and the new rear wing, which I hope will work. We don’t have the famous diffuser anymore but I hope we are on target with the car.”
