Congratulations to stalwart of the tyres industry Peter Taylor who was presented with an OBE by The Queen.
Mr Taylor, who holds the joint positions of secretary general of the Tyre Recovery Association (TRA) and director of the Imported Tyre Manufacturer’s Association (ITMA), accepted the honour during an award ceremony at Buckingham Palace last week.
He received the award for services to the tyre industry and for his contribution to the businesses ground breaking tyre recovery and recycling programme.
It is the first time for many years that the tyres industry has received a prestigious Royal honour.
Mr Taylor has devoted 40 years service to the tyre industry and is credited with helping to develop a voluntary scheme to track, trace and recycle tyres.
Peter has also devoted a considerable amount of time in the area of tyre safety.
As secretary of the Tyre Industry Council, now TyreSafe, from the late 1990s he helped establish and promote tyre safety campaigns with the police and many other non-governmental organisations.
The initiatives helped reduce the number of illegal and dangerous tyres on the road from over 20% to 15% thereby contributing to a reduction in accidents on UK roads.
