Kumho tyres is strengthening its partnership with Daimler AG by supplying tyres for original equipment fit to the high-end Mercedes G-Class.
The South Korean tyres manufacturer began supplying its Solus KL21 in size 265/60 R18 110H for the iconic G-Class last month.
It is another boost for Kumho’s overseas OE business. The Kumho Solus KL21, which is manufactured in Kumho’s state-of-the-art plant in Vietnam, is available from 16 to 20 inches and is described as an all purpose touring tyre that provides the capability in a variety of driving situations.
According to Kumho, the new symmetric pattern is optimised to low rolling resistance and its tread compound improves mileage and traction, the wide tread width provides driving stability and comfortable ride.
The four-wheel drive G-Class, short for Geländewagen (i.e. cross-country vehicle), is characterised by its boxy styling and body-on-frame construction. It uses three fully locking differentials, one of the few vehicles to have such a feature.
Kumho first supplied its tyres to Mercedes in 2007. A spokesman for the global tyre manufacturer said: “We expect the supply of OE tyres for Benz G Class to contribute to enhancing our brand recognition in foreign markets.”
Earlier this year Kumho announced it had been named exclusive tyres supplier for the fastest Mini model ever to hit the roads – the John Cooper Works GP. It provided its Ecsta V70A tyres as original equipment for the limited-edition model.
