Euphoric Jenson Button has sewn up the Formula One world championship this afternoon!
After a tense few months when problems with his tyres and pressure from his Brawn team mate Rubens Barrichello put his points lead under pressure he has claimed the title.
He crossed the line in fifth place and although the flag went to Mark Webber and Red Bull, but Button’s well-earned points lead make impossible for anyone to catch him during the final race of the season in Abu Dhabi.
And it was a case of double-delight for the Brawn team as they also celebrated winning the Constructors’ Championship title, less than 12 months after Honda’s departure left its staff facing an apparently bleak future.
Meanwhile, Barrichello’s hopes of challenging Button for the title where burst when he had to pit with a puncture eight laps from the end, ending his last remote hope of the championship.
