Get to Grips With Tyres Safety as Snow and Ice Move In
A warning of sub-zero temperatures and snow is bringing home the need for motorists to make sure their tyres are safe and legal.
Ensuring your tyres have β at the very least β the legal minimum tread depth of 1.6mm is imperative as bald tyres will make driving on slippery roads even more treacherous.
Properly inflated tyres will also offer optimum grip in snow and icy conditions.
Temperatures are expected to drop to between -2 and -3 degrees tomorrow night according to the Met Office and continue to plummet further by the end of the week, according to the Met Office.
A spokesman said: βOn Friday the showers which were further north and east might drift across to the southern counties. There is an advisory for snow showers pushing their way across.β
Police are warning drivers to take care on the roads and ensure their cars are winter-proof.
Motorists should make sure their windscreens are defrosted properly before they drive off, leave more time for their journey and keep a good distance from the car in front.
