Fury Over Dumped Tyres
Angry residents are calling for action to be taken over an eyesore pile of tyres dumped near their homes more than six months ago.
The tyres were dumped at a derelict builders yard on a Wolverhampton street, and locals fear they pose a huge fire risk.
Fed-up residents claim that despite desperate pleas to Wolverhampton City Council and health and safety representatives, no action has been taken.
Brian Baird, who has lived in the street for more than 30 years, told the Express and Star newspaper: “Earlier this year, some people started to use it for tipping all sorts of rubbish – sheets of tin, plastic, you name it, it was there and still is.
“Unfortunately a pile of tyres also accumulated. These tyres are in full view of anyone who, if they decide to, could easily set them alight.”
He added: “If this were to happen, I honestly think that they would have to evacuate the street and someone could be seriously hurt, or quite possibly killed by smoke inhalation.”
No-one from Wolverhampton City Council was today available for comment.
