Much of the UK is currently suffering from high winds, heavy rain and hail storms, all of which can result in treacherous driving conditions. Now that the school run has started again and we are back to work after the Christmas break it is important to take five minutes and ensure that your vehicle is equipped for the weather. To give you added incentive to check your tyres this week we have launched The Big Tyre Sale which means that if you do find your tyres need replacing you can benefit from up to £25 off all brands and sizes.
As your tyres are the only thing that connect your car to the road it is important to check them for signs of damage such as lumps, cracks and embedded objects. Ensuring your tyres have enough tread depth can also mean the difference between safe and unsafe handling in wet conditions.
The legal minimum tread depth for car tyres is 1.6mm; however it is recommended that 3mm is a safer minimum, especially when driving in wet conditions. If you have ever experienced the sliding sensation of aquaplaning you will know that it can feel like driving on ice, with limited ability to turn and brake. Aquaplaning can occur when there is as little as 3mm of surface water on the roads and the deeper your tread pattern the more water it can disperse; reducing the risk of aquaplaning.
Still not convinced? We have made a short video demonstrating the difference that tread depth can make to braking distances in wet conditions.
The Big Tyre Sale will be running until 1 April 2014 and combined with our all-inclusive prices and mobile tyre fitting we are confident that we can save you both time and money.
