Continental tyres has announced it is a lead partner of the Football Association’s Women’s Super League (WSL).
The German tyres manufacturer already has a strong association with football as an Official Sponsor of the FIFA World Cup, now it is hoping to help give women’s football in England the biggest boost in the sports history.
Its latest collaboration is with the WSL, the FA’s new elite league of eight semi-professional teams which will run throughout the summer, from April to September.
Guy Frobisher, of Continental Tyres, explained: “Continental Tyres has a strong association with football as an Official Sponsor of the FIFA World Cup. We are proud to extend this to women’s football in England.
“2011 is an exciting year for the sport, with both the launch of the WSL and the FIFA Women’s World Cup Germany. It is sure to be a year that will prove important to the game and offer encouragement to the stars of the future, Continental is proud to be a part of this.”
Participating in The FA WSL are Arsenal Ladies, Birmingham City Ladies, Bristol Academy, Chelsea Ladies, Doncaster Rovers Belles, Everton Ladies, Lincoln Ladies and Liverpool Ladies.
Alex Horne, General Secretary at The FA, added: “With England’s International Women’s teams doing so well on the world stage and participation levels here at such a high, it’s vital we have a competitive, well structured and, critically, commercially sustainable league at the top of the women’s game.”
