Continental is celebrating winning evo magazine’s tyres test with its new ContiSportContact 5 P.
The tyres manufacturers came top of the test on the front wheel drive Renaultsport Megane 250 Cup. The high end sports car magazine tested Continental’s new ContiSportContact 5 P in the popular 19 inch size 235/35R19.
The magazine said: “A very solid performance sees the Continental take the win (…). It set the standard in many of the tests, taking an almost clean sweep in the dry tests and rating very highly in the wet tests, too.
“It also garnered praise for its feel and abilities in the subjective tests.”
Of particular note were the Continental’s results in the aquaplaning tests. evo noted that “Aquaplaning, or hydroplaning, is one of the most frightening situations you can encounter”, and the ContiSportContact 5 P topped both the curved and straight line aquaplaning tests.
The magazine examined nine brands in total, including some of the most popular on the market, testing the tyres to the limit across a range of measured disciplines including wet braking, dry braking, straight and curved aquaplaning and rolling resistance.
As well as wet and dry handling tests at the track, they also took the tyres out on the road to get a subjective feel for how the tyres perform in normal driving conditions.
Tracey Hyem, brand manager at Continental Tyres, said: “The ContiSportContact 5 P was new to the market this year so it is great to see it perform so well against our competitors. The tyre has also proved popular with car manufacturers being fitted as original equipment on many flagship models including AMG Mercedes SLS, Audi TT RS and the Renault Mégane III Sport RS.”
