Continental is celebrating another tyre test triumph after the PremiumContact 5 beat 52 other tyres to take top spot in the highly regarded Auto Bild summer tyre test (size 185/60 R14 H).

Also voted the German magazines 2015 ‘eco champion’ due to its low wear and rolling resistance, the result comes hot on the heels of the Continental tyres victory in the ADAC summer tyre test (size 185/60 R14 H).

With so many tyres to assess, Auto Bild followed a two-stage approach. The first round involved testing a combination of wet and dry braking stopping distances, which determined which tyres progressed to the second round.

The first round saw the elimination of 35 tyres and the final 18 included a number of expected well-known brand names and, to the stated surprise of the Auto Bild testers, two “unknown brands” – Zeetex in 13th and Roadstone in 15th place, according to Tyres and Accessories.

The PremiumContact 5 was rated ‘exemplary’, along with the Hankook Kinergy Eco K425, Michelin Energy Saver +, Nexen N’Blue HD plus and Vredestein Sportrac 5.

The Pirelli Cinturato P1 Verde, Dunlop Sport BluResponse, Bridgestone Turanza T001, Falken Ziex ZE914 Ecorun and Fulda EcoControl HP all received a ‘good’ rating, while the Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance, Kumho Ecowing ES 01 KH 27, Sava Intensa HP and Zeetex ZT 1000 were rated ‘satisfactory’.

Also appearing amongst the 18 finalists, but only as ‘conditionally recommended’ products were the Apollo Alnac 4G, Yokohama BluEarth AE-01, Roadstone CP 661 and Uniroyal RainExpert.

The following tyres were ranked 19 to 53 in the order they appear here: Semperit Comfort Life 2, Barum Brillantis 2, Dayton D210, Torque TQ02, Nankang XR611 Toursport, HiFly HF 201, Firestone TZ 300 α, Riken Maystorm 2 b², Nokian Line, Taurus Touring 301, Petlas Imperium PT515, GT Radial Champiro 228, Viking CityTech II, Evergreen EH 23, Maxxis Victra 510, Starmaxx Novaro ST532, Matador MP 16 Stella 2, Zeta ZTR20, Marshal Matrac MH11, Kleber Dynaxer HP 3, Tracmax F-101, Gislaved Urban Speed, Trazano H550-A, General Altimax Comfort, Cooper CS2, King Meiler Sport 1, Avon ZT5, Sailun Atrezzo SH402, Insa Turbo Ecosaver-E, Tristar F109 Ecopower 2, Autogrip F 10, Toyo Nanoenergy 2, Silverstone Synergie M5, Rotalla F 109 and Maxtrek SU-830.
