Checking your tyres are properly inflated in order to save money at the fuel pumps is a message we are always driving home.
Now the Guardian is passing on tips from the AA encouraging its readers to adopt “eco-friendly” habits and driving techniques to get more mileage out of a tank of fuel.
Tyres are a central factor in making your car more fuel efficient. With this in mind the Guardian report explains: “Check tyre pressures regularly and before long journeys. Under-inflated tyres create more rolling resistance and so use more fuel.”
Other suggestions include emptying your boot to avoid using up fuel transporting extra baggage around; streamlining your vehicle be removing roof racks/boxes which make it create extra wind resistance and increase fuel consumption and cut down on using the air con, heated rear windscreen and demister blowers – all of these lead to fuel guzzling.
