Vehicle owners are being advised to check their tyres pressure to save money this Christmas, by a financial advice website.
Properly inflated tyres will help to reduce your petrol costs explains Moneyweb.
It advises drivers: “Check your tyre pressure regularly. When driving, one of the biggest forces that your vehicle has to overcome is the friction created between your tyres and the road, and this force can account for up to 20% of your fuel consumption.
“At any point in time, it’s estimated that as many as half of the vehicles on the road have at least one under-inflated tyre – and all of these vehicles would then be using that much more fuel to get where they’re going.
“You might think this doesn’t add up to a lot of money saved, but extrapolate it over the amount of road covered (especially with everyone’s long trips at this time of year), and it starts to really add up.
“Remember that your tyres naturally lose pressure over time (roughly 0.1 bar per month), so make sure to check them regularly, and make sure that they are always at the optimum operating pressure.”
