Motorists can save money by making every drop of fuel count if they follow 20 simple steps from checking tyres pressure to avoiding rush hour, according to an environmental company.
LowCarbonEconomy.com advises motorists to take its advice onboard to make their money go further.
It recommends keeping tyres at the right pressure, because if they are under inflated by just 1psi, fuel efficiency can be reduced by up to 3%.
The website also advises vehicle owners to service their engines, because a poorly maintained engine can increase fuel consumption by up to 50 per cent.
Motorists should also avoid carrying excess weight, take off the roof rack, check air filters, use the correct oil, check the seal on their fuel cap and plan journeys to conserve more fuel.
Other useful tips from the website include driving smoothly, using higher gears, keeping the windows closed, switching to cruise control, avoid excess idling and avoid over-revving and high speeds.
Motorists should also use their air-conditioning sparingly, avoid rush hour traffic and keep a constant speed.
The Low Carbon Economy Ltd aims to help accelerate the transition to a resource efficient low carbon economy.
