World Environment Day (WED) is just two days away and if you want to make your mark you can start by checking your car tyres.
It takes a few minutes to check that your tyres have the correct pressure level and yet properly inflated tyres can reduce CO2 emissions.
World Environment Day was established by the UN General Assembly in 1992 to mark the opening of the Stockholm Conference on the Human Environment.
Commemorated annually on 5th June, WED is one of the principal vehicles through which the UN stimulates worldwide awareness of the environment and enhances political attention and action.
The days agenda is to give a human face to the green crusade and stimulate changing attitudes towards environmental issues.
The theme for WED 2009 is “Your Planet Needs You – Unite to Cobat Climate Change”. It reflects the urgency for nations to agree on a new deal at the crucial climate convention meeting in Copenhagen at the end of the year.
