There’s a definite chill in the air and with the clocks due to go back an hour in a couple of weeks now is the time to check your car tyres can handle the changing weather.
Making sure your tyres are properly inflated and have enough tread depth – which should be a minimum of 3mm – only takes a matter of minutes, but it can cut the risk of being involved in a costly accident.
Also give the tyres a visual inspection to make sure they don’t have any cuts, cracks or bulges, because these could lead to blow-outs at high speed.
Other checks to make include, topping up the anti-freeze, making sure your windscreen wash bottle is full and your wipers are in good working order, and that your lights are not on the blink.
Finally, don’t forget to keep a can of de-icer and a windscreen scraper handy unless you want to freeze your fingers to the bone on an ice cold morning.
