There are two things that are guaranteed to let you down when you are planning a fun day out with the family – the weather and your tyres. Sadly, there isn’t much you can do about the British climate, but you can make sure your tyres are in good condition to lessen the likelihood of waking up to a puncture or suffering a blowout at high speeds on the motorway.
Many motorists already have a good maintenance routine in place and carry out regular checks on their tyres at least once a month. If you don’t, then you need to make sure you give them a thorough inspection before setting off on a long journey.
We recommend you carry out the following three checks on your tyres:
Tread – make sure you have at least the minimum legal limit of 1.6mm depth to enhance your tyres performance and braking, especially in wet conditions
Pressure – the wrong pressure will lead to uneven tread wear and can damage the sidewalls of your tyres, which could lead to a puncture or blow out
Damage – will shorten the life of a tyre, which means you will have the unncesary cost of replacing it and reducing the tyre’s road holding performance.
