Forget speed and power, the latest car craze sweeping the world is hypermiling!
It’s all about using driving skills and motoring savvy to get the maximum mileage from every tank of fuel.
For a start making sure your tyres are properly inflated can save a small fortune. Did you know that if your tyres are under inflated by just 1psi, your fuel efficiency can be reduced by up to 3 per cent?
Some hypermilers even leave their spare tyres at home and carry a puncture repair kit to lighten their load and squeeze more miles out of their tank.
And switching to a tyre with lower rolling resistance – the energy-sapping drag created as the tyre turns against the tarmac – can cut 5 per cent from your fuel bill.
Michelin’s award-winning Energy Saver range was among the first and is fitted as original equipment on many high-efficiency cars now.
