Kumho Tyres has issued a warning to caravan and trailer owners to check the roadworthiness of their tyres before taking to the roads during the Christmas holidays.
Caravans and camper trailers have enjoyed a surge in popularity in recent years with annual sales almost doubling in the decade since 2000.
However, Kumho offers the timely advice because many motorists may be about to use their caravan or trailer for the first time in months and could be relying on tyre that may have been neglected and not given a thought since the last time it was used.
And with such high numbers taking to the roads, it is essential that owners take tyre safety seriously and make the necessary checks to their vehicles.
Close attention needs to be paid to tyre pressure, tyre types, overloading, tread depth, nose weight, winter storage and common types of wear and damage.
David Basha, national marketing and training manager for Kumho, said: “Most people simply do not appreciate the high demands placed on their caravan’s tyres.
“Making sure your caravan or trailer’s tyres as well as those of your car are in a good condition, correctly inflated and not overloaded is a vital factor in staying safe on the road.”
