A father-of-three has been jailed for slashing his ex-wife’s tyres twice in one day because he was depressed about the breakdown of their marriage.
Jamie Noakes, 42, separated from his wife after 20 years of marriage three years ago and was given a non-molestation order in January this year after harassing his former partner.
But two months later he slashed the tyres on his wife’s Citroen while it was parked outside the garage – once at 7.30am and again at around 7.30pm.
His ex-wife and one of their children witnessed the second attack and saw Noakes with a knife. The police were called and the Tilehurst man was arrested.
Hugh Williams, prosecuting, said: “During the morning incident the claimant found all four tyres flat and slashed and had a telephone message from the defendant that said: ‘Hi, I hope you liked your present I left you.’
“At work that morning she was called at least three times by the defendant and in the evening she spotted him by her car with the knife slashing the four tyres again. He disappeared and came back again when he ripped the windscreen wipers off.”
Noakes had admitted five charges at an earlier hearing and was sentenced at Reading Crown Court for possession of a bladed article, two counts of criminal damage, one of using threatening or abusive words or behaviour and one of breaching the non-molestation order.
He was jailed for a total of 10 months.
