Kumho scoop tyres innovations award

Kumho tyres have scooped the prestigious Design Innovation of the Year title at the Tyre Technology International Awards for Innovation and Excellence.
The South Korean tyres manufacturer picked up the award for its pioneering new laser etching technology which was unveiled in 2009.
While tyres have been cut with a laser CNC before, the Kumho system uses a YAG laser and leaves a near perfect surface finish, much the same as a molded tyre, according to Tyre Technology International.
Adam Gavine, editor of Tyre Technology International, said: “Kumho is also developing the technology in regards to tyre mold applications.
“Kumho deserves this recognition, as although many companies have tried such technology, theirs is the first genuine success.”
The Awards, which took place in Cologne at the 10th annual Tyre Technology EXPO, also honoured Michelin, Goodyear, Lanxess and SRI for a variety of key technology categories.
Earlier this year Kumho tyres received a coveted IF Product Design Award for the laser etching process which is set to transform the way the company designs its tread patterns.
