As the UK struggles to get to grips with the appalling winter weather, Autocar has been deluged with queries from readers asking about the effectiveness of winter tyres.
So the world’s oldest car magazine dispatched an intrepid team to put a set of Continental winter tyres through their paces.
Their challenge was to compare a standard and a winter set of tyres. They took two BMWs and a standard and a winter set of tyres to a test track for a quick-fire comparison.
As they freely admit, the test was far from scientific, largely due to the fact the tyres were put through their paces on two different vehicle makes, but it did provide interesting results which have been captured on video.
The short film clearly showed the benefits of having, as Autocar puts it “more appropriate rubber in cold conditions”.
