Used car owners are being warned that despite the recent cold snap, the worst of this winter’s weather could be yet to come.
According to Co-operative Insurance, 19 per cent of home and motor insurance claims are made in the first two months of the year and that car owners should check their tyres and follow other steps to prepare for difficult driving conditions that may be around the corner.
James Hillon, functional leader at the group, commented that the rise in claims is mainly due to deterioration in the weather.
“The recent bad weather has already had a massive impact across the country with people becoming stranded in their cars because they weren’t prepared for the heavy snow,” he added.
Mr Hillon went on to say that preparing for wintry weather need not be time consuming and should involve checking tyres, lights, mirrors and anti-freeze levels and carrying some de-icer and an ice scraper.
