Motorists who rely on sensors and rear view cameras to help them park are going to love this new invention – tyres that enable a vehicle to effortlessly glide from side to side, making it even easier to squeeze into tight spaces!
Designed by English inventor William Liddiard, the omni-capable wheels are billed as “a world first bolt-on application” which can be attached to any vehicle.
Although the tyres, which can be seen in this mesmerising YouTube video, can move in any direction, including sliding horizontally, they still have the same characteristics as normal tyres and can be used in all weather and road conditions.
Unfortunately it is still early days in the development of these revolutionary tyres. According to Liddiard, the tyres are: “Proof of concept prototypes to show that they work. Finished wheels will be refined to target application requirements.”
This means although their performance can be viewed on Liddiard’s Toyota Echo, they are not available to purchase and motorists cannot order a set from etyres, the UK’s first online mobile tyre fitting retailer, just yet.
However, in the meantime, tyre technology is still moving at quite a pace, with improvements to run-flat capabilities and other developments to help reduce motoring costs, fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.
Motorists who need advice about the right tyres to suit their vehicle, driving style and budget can contact etyres on 0800 028 9000 for expert and impartial advice to secure the best choice.
Meanwhile Liddiard is on the lookout for a company that would consider licensing the technology or partnering with him to bring it to market.
