Yokohama to Increase Production Capacity in Thailand

Contributing Writer Following an incentive to treble
production capacity at the Yokohama Shinshiro-Minami
factory in Japan, Yokohama has announced plans to
increase production capacity for passenger car and light
commercial vehicle tyres in Thailand.
The Thai sector of Yokohama Tire Manufacturing is set to
expand capacity at its 420,000 square metre factory in
Rayong Province to 2.8 million tyres by the 2009
financial year. The Rayong Province plant is the largest
of the Yokohama Group’s tyre manufacturing facilities
around the world, and as such Yokohama intends to make
Yokohama Tire Manufacturing (Thailand) its largest
overseas base for tyre production. The facility consists
of two plants, one of which began the production of
truck and bus tyres in April 2005, while the second
plant went into operation in November 2006 for the
production of PC/LT tyres.
As the second part of the two-stage planned expansion,
Yokohama will employ a small-scale integrated
manufacturing system similar to the system that was
introduced in the first stage of development. This
manufacturing system is designed to expedite the process
between plant construction and operation activation
while requiring a smaller investment. Yokohama has
estimated that the system will take one year and will
require £29.3 million (7 billion Yen) of investment.
