Contributing Writer The Yokohama Tire Corporation has
received an Environmental Management System
Certification (EMSC) for its plant in Salem, Virginia.
The company claims that all of its plants in Japan have
been ISO 14001 accredited since 1999 and that Yokohama
plants worldwide are either certified or in the process
of certification.
Shinichi Suzuki, Yokohama Rubber Company vice president,
executive vice president of manufacturing and technology
and plant manager, spoke on behalf of the company
concerning Yokohama’s dedication to environmental
issues: "Yokohama is pledged to work toward 'zero
emissions,' a program that will eliminate industrial
waste at landfill sites." Mr Suzuki added that
Yokohama’s "commitment to the environment is very
important.”
"We work to reuse or otherwise recycle all waste and
will introduce cogeneration systems to raise resource
efficiency,” the Yokohama vice president explained. “We
work in all our operations to reduce waste and the
output of carbon dioxide. Globally, this is our moral
obligation."
Yokohama aims to attain environmentally conscious
standards in its research and development, addressing
such issues as the control of chemical substances,
energy conservation and the reduction and recycling of
waste materials. The company claims to be dedicated to
environment conservation and global awareness, and has
maintained the goal of acquiring EMSC’s for all of its
businesses.
