Toyo Tire Company has struck a sponsorship deal with The Oxford Universities Motorsport Foundation. OUMF is a student initiative that was founded in July 2005 and provides 'hands-on' practical experience of motorsport to the students of Oxford. The aim of the Foundation is to bridge the increasing skills gap that is threatening all engineering and manufacturing industries in the United Kingdom.

As a sponsor, Toyo will provide the automotive stars of tomorrow with a head start. The Company will be providing the rubber for the students' latest projects, which include a rapid Golf Mk2 GTI and a restored Alfa Romeo 1750 GTV racer. Hopefully, these talented men and women will have a competitive edge in their push for the forthcoming season, thanks to the Toyo Company’s sponsorship. The Oxford Universities Motorsport Foundation is planning on a busy year, with appearances already booked at blue-chip events like the Goodwood Revival and Race Retro in Warwickshire.

OUMF is described as an independent, pan university student initiative. The foundation was founded as a means to encourage the skills developed through practical engineering via the medium of motor racing. Diverse disciplines are tackled through the project, including hill-climbing, road rallying and circuit racing. Owing to the comprehensive experience, students involved quickly learn the art of car preparation. OUMF has been praised for the valuable experience that students gain and for the valuable skill base of able enthusiasts that will benefit the industry for years to come.

Toyo’s European Marketing and Strategy Manager Mike Rignall, enthusiastically explained the latest partnership: "We’re delighted to be involved in supporting this brilliant organisation," he said. "We have long been a passionate supporter of Motorsport at grass-roots level – and this allows us to do our little bit to help nurture the next Gordon Murray or Ross Brawn. Keep an eye on this lot!"

The Oxford Motorsport Foundation has expressed its gratitude to Toyo Tires for recognising the urgent need for motivated up and comers and for sponsoring enthusiastic students in their endeavours in the Motorsport industry.
