Toyo to Expand North American Tyre Production
23 May 07
Emily Henry
Contributing Writer The Japanese company Toyo Tire and
Rubber has announced plans to increase the production
capacity of Toyo Tire North America, its North American
manufacturing subsidiary. Toyo is set to invest the
equivalent of £25 million (approximately 6,000 million
yen) into the State-side operations, and plans to expand
North American sales of Toyo 16 to 24-inch UHP tyres.
The company intends for the expanded sales to help meet
future OE demand from local car manufacturers.
Toyo Tire North America is based in Georgia and was
established three years ago. Production of passenger car
and light commercial vehicle tyres began in March 2006,
when a new, proprietary, automated “Advanced Tyre
Operation Module” (A.T.O.M) system was implemented to
facilitate the production of small-lot and multi-item
products within a smaller space. The A.T.O.M system is
due to be upgraded along with the announced capacity
expansion in order to increase the quality and quantity
of Toyo products. With the expansion and upgrade of Toyo
Tire North America, the company aims to increase product
output by 2009 to around 3.3 million units per year.
