Bridgestone to supply tyres for 2008 Formula 1 Season
28Nov06
The World Motor Sport Council have confirmed that
Bridgestone will be the sole supplier of tyres to F! for
the 2008 season.
Michelin and Bridgestone were due to be the joint
supplier of tyres for the 2007 F1 season but Michelin
have now withdrawn. This leaves Bridgestone as sole
supplier. Now Bridgestone have been named as the sole
supplier of tyres for the 2008 season as well.
Bridgestone has been making racing car tyres for a
number of years and entered F1 in 1997. They have
achieved considerable success with their tyres while at
the same time Michelin have suffered numerous
embarrassing mishaps. The most widely publicised of
these was the fiasco experienced in the United States
race in 2005 when the seven teams that were using
Michelin tyres could not race. This caused a heated
dispute between Edouard Michelin and FIA director Max
Mosley which could have contributed to the decision by
Michelin to withdraw their supply of tyres for F1 at
that time.
