BFGoodrich Backs Donnelly in Scotland for an Irish
Victory

Contributing Writer The Jim Clark rally in Scotland
played host to the leading Irish Tarmac Rally
Championship contenders last weekend. Eugene Donnelly
was hoping to bank some points, relying on his
BFGoodrich tyres for the 260 kilometres of track stages.
As the only international event held in Scotland, the
Jim Clark Rally runs on closed public roads across the
Berwickshire countryside. Eugene Donnelly has finished
in second place three times at the Rally and was rooting
for maximum points in order to secure his Championship
challenge. His confidence was high, and the Subaru WRC
that was entered by Reid Motorsport was run
competitively from the start.
Since Donnelly’s second place finish at the Rally of the
Lakes, the S12 Subaru has had the engine and gearbox
rebuilt and the Jim Clark rally was the first time he
had driven all the Scottish stages with his BFGoodrich
G-Force tarmac rally tyres.
Before the race, Donnelly said: “We have a very strong
package in the car with the BFGoodrich tyres”. Donnelly
and his co-driver Paul Kiely were both affected by the
flu at the last event, and Donnelly was keen to be on
top performance at the Jim Clark Rally. “Whilst we want
to challenge for an outright win we have to keep in mind
that having failed to finish the first round we need to
collect points at every event to be in with a chance as
the season continues”, he said.
Eugene Donnelly and Paul Kiely had a successful 4th
round at the Jim Clark Rally, scoring fastest times in
all but three of the Scottish stages. Donnelly commented
at the finish line that the S12 Subaru was “in fantastic
shape” and after a “difficult start to the season with
no wins to date” the Jim Clark victory was particularly
satisfying.
