Avon Tyres Ltd has added two new sizes to its cold-weather tyre range…the Ranger Ice and the Ice Touring ST. The new winter-tyre sizes are designed to fit a broad selection of 4x4s and popular high performance saloon cars and were introduced to confront the hazardous weather conditions that drivers can expect to face this winter.

The Ranger Ice tyre is specially designed to suit modern, high-performance 4x4s, with some versions of the tyre speed-rated up to 130mph. The tread pattern enhances traction in snow, slush, ice and mud as well as on wet plains, and features the Avon-patented ‘Snow Groove’ – a serrated tread that is unique to Avon winter tyres and improves grip on a diverse range of surfaces. The tread’s flexibility is maintained by a high silica rubber compound that helps to clear snow and slush from between the grooves while providing optimum road holding. The T-, H- and V- rated Ranger Ice is available in a wide range of sizes from 15 – 19 inch rim fitments.

The Ice Touring ST tyre is available in wide, low profile sizes to fit high performance cars and offers winter-tyre qualities similar to the Ranger Ice. The high silica content in the Ice Touring ST works in combination with extensive siping to maintain the flexibility of the tread blocks at low temperatures. This technology aids tyre traction and encourages grip in the snow and on wet surfaces. The tread pattern is asymmetric to suit high performance cars, while the tread blocks are widely spaced to prevent clogging on wintry terrains. The Ice Touring ST is available in 15 – 18 inch rim fitments covering both H and V speed ratings.

Avon has announced that run-flat versions of both tyres are under development and will be available soon.
